Stay logged in on my devices or log out? At the moment I'm at home, so have left things as they are i.e.: All devices are logged in to the cloud..What's best practice? Instinct tells me to log out when I'm not using them..Opinions?

What are you talking about?

iCloud is something that's "always on" in the background.

What are you trying to log out of?

Stay logged in, otherwise changes to Calendar, Contacts etc. won't get uploaded to the server.
Doesn't use battery and as long as you have a passcode, no worries

I guessed that was why it's the default setting.
