Icon Arrangment Keeps Changing

Happy New Year all.

I have a Mac Pro running OS 10.12.6, which has 4 HDD hard drives.
One of the hard drives always seems to reset its self after I've arranged the icons.

I click on 'clean up' and select 'by kind' as shown below.

But when I start the comp the next day or restart it always reverts back to this

How do I stop it doing that as it bugs the hell out of me! lol

How are you sorting? If by a right click in the window from the resulting contextual menu, the behavior you describe is exactly how it it programmed to work. This is a temporary means of sorting things in that window.

If you want to make permanent changes to how it's sorted, select Show View Options from the View Menu, or use the keyboard shortcut shown on the right of the command.

Thanks for the reply Gregg.

I sorted by right clicking in the window. The same way I have done it for as long as I can remember.
The other locations I have done this on, stayed sorted after right clicking.

Just found it a bit peculiar.

I have done what you suggested to make it permanent.
