Icon for a file in the dock

Very very very minor annoyance -- doesn't anyone know how to make the file icon (which has been placed in the dock) show a preview of the document (as it does in a finder window) rather than the normal pages icon?

You could create a folder, place your pages document in the folder, put the folder in the dock, and then ensure that the folder in the dock is set to "Stack" view. This icon is pretty close (a PDF will have the dog ear, as I presume a Pages document would). The additional folder hierarchy shouldn't matter too much as your quick access from the Dock is there.

That's a really good idea, thanks! Shame there isn't a way to do it with just the file. It seems very un-Apple!

Actually, I just realized there IS a way to do it. Paste your icon into the "Get Info" box of the file. Because the previews are a function of the finder window, the icons in the dock don't show the preview, but show the file's icon. If you put a custom icon for the file, it will show in the dock!
