Icon question

I've read plenty of guides, but I do what they say to change an icon and it just doesn't work. I want to change the HD icon on the desktop to something I downloaded. How do I do that?

Select the icon, press COMMAND-I, select the picture of the icon in the top of the Get Info panel such that it is highlighted blue. Now, select the Hard Drive, press COMMAND-I, select the icon of the Hard Drive in the top of the Get Info panel and paste.

mad jew to the rescue again. I was clicking the bigger picture down in the get info windows. thanks

No problems.

To turn it back to the original, select the icon in the Get Info window again and press DELETE.
