I dont have my iphone yet, but i went on the app store and bought all the apps i wanted early. When i looked at them in the applications folder in itunes, some had rounded edges and some sharp edges. I cant check if its fine because i dont have an iphone yet :(. Is this a problem or will they look the same on my iphone? Thanks ahead of time!:apple::apple::apple:

They will be changed to the rounded, 'glass covered' icon on the device. Apple automatically adds this to the icons, unless the developer directly tells them not to. As far as I've seen, no apps currently are telling Apple to leave their icon alone.

As Jeremy pointed out this is perfectly natural. Some icons however do request to be left alone so they are not treated with the 'glossy' effect. Google App, Trism, MotionX Poker, File Magnet and Bejeweled to name but a few. Either these icons have their own tailored lighting effects, or such an effect wouldn't be appropriate and would kill the metaphor.

The sharp edges are apparently dictated by the app makers, as well. When Remote (Apple's own app!) and AIM first came out, they had sharp corners in the Applications view in iTunes. But now, after a update, they both now have rounded corners.

datacase's icon is rounded-glossy in the app store, but on the iphone has no gloss effect, and isn't even square shaped - it's just the shape of a briefcase with the rest all black - kind of annoying

I'v also noticed the lack of consistency between App Store, Applications Tab and iPhone/Touch when it comes to the icons. This is mainly due to the automated fashion in which I can imagine the iTunes Store deals with the submitted images though.

While there has been some outstanding iconography, there is a lot of terribly designed icons that almost cheapen the look of the App Store in general. Obviously I'm treating this like a new pair of Vans which need 'breaking-in' but I do hope the developers give the aesthetics serious consideration before submitting their next major release/update.

I'm done. (-_-)Zzz

pocketmoney

I just now noticed it, but pocketmoney doesn't even have a border haha. I think it looks great though.

Pocketmoney just has a piggy bank. no border, no gloss.
