Icy dock as SSD case ... speed losses?

Having just bought the OWC 60GB SSD I wonder if the 50USD Maxconnect 2.5" adapter is worth the money.

My other (and cheaper) option is the Icy Dock adapter 3.5" case, I only wonder if the additional connectors etc in the Icy doc cause any speed losses on the SSD?

As sexy as the Maxconnect is ... looks aside, is the Icy Dock any good in terms of speed or does it actualy slow down the SSD?

Any experiences out there? Thanks a million!

none that I could get at least ?

I tested the two optical ports and also each bay all were the same ?
the two optical ports were direct cable
 
I disagree...

I am currently testing a freshly erased/reconditioned Intel 80 GB SSD with and without using the ICY Dock. I am already showing significant degradation in read speed (in DiskTester) when using the ICY dock.. I will post my results when all testing is completed.
 
Which Icy Dock are we talking about?

There is the standard single disc version and a dual 2.5" to 3.5" version. Apparently the dual version will cut the sequential performance of the SSDs in half. The single version, however, is a simple passthrough adapter which doesn't affect the performance at all.
 
as transporteur the one bay icy dock 2.5 to 3.5 is basically an extension cord/cable.

if you do get a difference in speed your are misconnected or have a defective part.

I have a dozen raptor sleds purchased on ebay they act as a cable and a heat sink. same as the icy dock.

Hey Guys,

I know this is an old thread, but there shouldn't be any speed degration whether you use direct connection or not, the enclosures' SATA connection is just a bypass signal from the SSD/HDD itself. There aren't any chipsets that would allow for slower transfer speed. This is true for the MB982IP-1S and MB882 series.

We also have the dual 2.5" to 3.5" converter with RAID, the MB982SPR-2S, please see below for test results:

Wow I just found out about this. Can't believe I haven't heard more about this, only 2 hits on this site for MB982SPR-2S.

This looks like a great solution to maxing out the SATAII of the Mac Pro with a pair of SSDs in RAID0.
