I am not and do not plan to ever be a web programmer so I can't do this, but it could be cool and big. I was listening to my favorite tech podcast, TWIT and they talk all the time about twitter and to a lesser extent about their twitter followers race. Twitter is a big thing, and it can only grow so much. But what if someone made a "service" where the whole idea is the followers competition race thing, and takes away posting or makes it much more limited so that it has room to grow to bigger numbers than even twitter can? So you have something where people can sign up for free, make a profile, and they follow each other. And "races" would be going on where a deadline is set, and whoever has the most followers at the end of that time wins. That's the simple idea, but here's how to further it.
1. Make it so that all members that are following more than one of the top posters, the ones in the race, get an email forcing them to be following only one.
2. Posting is not allowed, except that the members in the race can post in some spot to try and get people to vote for them.
3. Maybe set up different categories of races, and when people are registering they have to specify which of some categories of some sort they fall into, so you can have more than one race going on at once and only members of a category can join that type of race.
4. Set up a "Betting service" so that bets can be placed.
Any takers?
