Ideal disk space for 10.10

guys , about to partition a 500gb hdd to install 10.10
What would the best disk space allocated for yosemite....will 100gb be fine...

Will externalise iphoto n itunes libraris to the other partition. ....also, is is a good idea? Oh yeah, it will b done on an mid 2010 imac. Thx

Well I once installed OS X Yosemite on a 32gb Usb 3.0 thumb drive, with all my music on it. So you should be fine. However this depends on your storage needs of course.

At a minimum 20 GB, although 100 GB is a good size for accommodating extra apps/data.

Oh, and please consider getting a 128 GB SSD boot drive with HDD storage. It will speed up Yosemite quite a bit.

A general rule of thumb I use for sizing a boot/app partition is creating double the size that I'm currently using. So for example if my applications folder + system folder + (top level) library folder = 28GB, I'd make the new boot partition 56GB.

Just curious...why the desire to partition your drive? Given you don't seem to have any unusual data requirements.

....so u just stick up ur thumb drive on any mac and run os...its very convenient.

My still pic and vids....quite a chunk. Also i usually clone my OSs, so a smaller size of the os partition make it easier ....i dnt have to clone the whole 500gb
