Identify an iMac?

How can I get the model number or specification from an iMac that is running OS 9.1?

Also, is the model number displayed somewhere on the outside of the iMac?

Someone is trying to find out information about their iMac. They are not near me and have sent me these photos. I would like to help them find out more information about their computer.

If I remember rightly from my old G3 iMac, the serial number is on the bottom of the machine – tip it over (carefully, mind) and take a look. It was a few years ago though so I might be misremembering.

Can't remember what the System Profiler in OS9 is called... it's been so long.

Looks like one of the DV models.
Has it got a monitor output on the back?

Click the apple in the top left corner, and it'll have a menu option called 'About this Macintosh' or something.

On there it will tell you the ammount of ram installed, CPU speed, currently running apps (And how much memory each is using) and the ammount of virtual memory (Usually on OS 9 its twice the ammount of ram installed).

Its deffo a G3 iMac, I'd take a guess at it being around 400-500 mhz.

The model number and specs are on the bottom near the front, underneath the stand.

Quite funny really, I was repairing a G3 imac today...

Actually, its probably one of the last ones, as it came with the pro keyboard and mouse.

Yea, it seems as if Apple likes to hide these things so as not to divert from the beauty of their products.

It's definitely a slot-loading Graphite iMac G3. That means you can easily throw some RAM into it (PC100/PC133 desktop sticks) by opening the flap on the back. It also means that it supports OS X Tiger and has firewire ports. These other posts will help you figure out the exact specifications.

CPU speed is only displayed in Mac OS X. In Mac OS 9 you have to go to "Apple System Profiler" to get this information.

600mhz systems were not considered "DV" systems.
