Idiot Newbie Needs Memory Help

Guys, I need some help. I just got my memory sticks from Newegg. The model and information on the packaging seems correct but the sticks aren't housed in a black cartridge module like the ones in my MP. Did I order the wrong ones??! I've attached a photo comparing them and a link to the ones I ordered.

I assumed they would have the black plastic housing like the ones already installed and the ones I see in all the "how to" videos on You Tube. So did I order/get the wrong ones?? I've done lots of checking on this and could have sworn that I had the memory information correct. But what showed up wasn't what I was expecting...

As far as I know, there are many different designs of heat-spreaders on memory. As long as the spec matches, you should be fine.

Since you have unpackaged the new ones, put them in and see what System Info reports about them. If they look good on the screen, great.

That black thing is just a heat spreader and it looks like your new RAM has heat spreaders as well, they're just a different color.

They're MUCH thinner though. The best example I can give would be a shaving razor and the difference between holding the blade naked by itself (ultra thin) vs. having it encased in a cartridge. The photo doesn't give a very good sense of this but the ones I ordered are VERY thin compared to the bulky MP ones with the Apple heatspreaders. I'm not at home or I would take a better photo. I tried to pop the new one in and it didn't seem to fit right but I guess I could try again later. I just immediately assumed they had to be the wrong ones without the same type of cartridge or heat spreader that my existing memory sticks have.

See my (more verbose) reply in the other thread - Apple required bigger heatsinks for FB-DIMMs in its MacPro. Those smaller modules _could_ work (perhaps causing higher fan speeds), but they also have failed in the past, especially under load!

The one of the left looks like a Mac approved heat spreader, and the one on the left looks like a normal heat speader

The specifications look correct to me for your mac. I don't know why it wouldn't fit.
