So, as I've read, the MobileMe iDisk is agonizingly slow. Anybody know if there is an update on the way?

So, I am using Transmit to access my iDisk. But, I'm confused on what to type. Here is the picture:

What do I input in each of these fields? Can anyone give me exact directions? Please, I need to do this quickly as I am under a time limit.

Thanks in advance,

Wirelessly posted (White iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5C1 Safari/525.20)

at home on my mac I use the mounted iDisk image and it is pretty fast, at work I use me.com to upload and it is blazing - T1 of course.

Why not just use the mounted iDisk disk image that's on your desktop - it lloks like this:

Because it's very very very slow and usually gives "Last sync failed" messages?

This has been widely reported for years: http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/dotmac/topic4343.html
Here's a sample quotation from that thread:
Try using another WebDAV program. The iDisk is fine, it's the Finder that's terrible. Transmit's always worked for me. On the free software side, there's Goliath.

For what it's worth, I find the mounted iDisk works reasonably well for very small files (text files etc) but routinely fails to sync larger files. Uploading with something other than Finder is much quicker. I'm sure Apple could fix Finder if they wanted to.

In my experience, it's just rubbish. I have a good up and down speeds on my ADSL and I've never managed to upload anything over 25MB. I have managed a 20MB file but it took so long (over 3 hours ) I've have found it easier to carry a usb drive with me.

I think the official limit is 1GB, so you shouldn't have a problem with files like that.

The reality is that iDisk can be very unreliable.

My tips:

- If you want to copy multiple files, put them in a folder. Finder seems to cope with this better
- Run transfers of large files overnight
- Try zipping files if you have problems uploading them normally

Slow? I have had no problems at all with iDisk being slow, either as a mounted disk on my mac at home or as a "web folder" on my work PC.

I copied (downloaded) a folder with 100 MB of data (acorss aprox 30 files) from it yesterday and it took aporx 4-5 min.

I don't know if it is running off different servers in New Zealand.

I like the generic file-share icon better (metallic blue with 3 "people" as the logo). The "real" idisk icon would be better in blue to match the normal MobileMe icon/logo. The pink is too....pink.

But what really matters is having https instead of http.

I've had pretty good speeds with Mobile Me, however, I sometimes get a file that will never finish transferring:

On a side note, how do I get rid of said stuck file after it never finishes. When I try to delete, it says its "in use".

Try Interarchy

Yes, not that reliable over all for me either (wasn't anyway), and I still just used it for backup rather than dynamic work. I hadn't been able to dump anything hefty in there at all, until recently as now it seems better...since they've revised the Public folder front end (?), as such I've successfully dumped a load of disk ISO's and .DMG's in mine over the past few days using 'Interarchy' - neither the Finder, Cyberduck or even Transmit managed a steady reliable upload for all files, Interarchy seems the best of the lot and did the job even over flaky Costa Rican broadband via a fluctuating 1mb wi-fi link.

If you only need 2GB or less, check out dropbox (http://www.getdropbox.com ) -- it's pretty brainless online disk storage and synchronization. Check out the video. It works on Macs, PCs, and linux boxes, and they give you 2GB free with an unlimited number of synchronized Macs/PCs/etc..

If you need more than 2GB, it's something like $99/year for 50GB.
