iDVD sans Superdrive?

I know that iDVD requires a "Superdrive" for burning, but can be it be installed on a computer that does not have one and then some sort of image or project file be transported to another computer for the actual burning?
I would like to play with it on my iMac which has a DVD-Rom only and want to know if it will even run on my computer.

Ever since the latest update you've been able to run iDVD on non-Superdrive equipped machines, but not burn them.
