This is my very first attempt at using iDVD constructing a DVD movie I made. Now I've burnt data DVDs in Toast just fine for back-up purposes but never iDVD. It gets to Stage 3 and sits there for about 20 mins and the the app unexpectedly quits. I just trashed the prefs and I'm trying now... next will be to repair permissions. Any other thoughts/comments?

Thank you in advance.

Still no go...

I have rebuilt permissions, trahed the preferences fiel and still it does noot burn my DVD. It doesn't unexpectedly quit now just hangs in "Step 3:Asset encoding...". does this process take countless hours to do or what?

Please someone shed some light for me

I've been having some problems with iDVD 4. I can't currently get anything to burn - it unexpectedly quits after 2 hours of stage 2, but it doesn't touch the blank DVD (so I can re-use it). I never had any problems with iDVD 3.

Ok his is what I did, I deleted this file:
Hard DRIVE>Users>usrnamehere>Library>Preferences>com.apple.iDVD.plist

After doing so I rebooted and gave my DVD movie about .2 worth of free space or total movie of 3.8Gigs. After that it did take a long time, about 2 hours, but it finishes just fine and plays flawless in all the standard DVD players I have.

I too was getting the unexpectedly quits on stage 2 but now they stopped. from what I observed stage 2 took the longest of my DVD burn sequence so it must be doing some heavy processing. Also if you open DRIVE>Applications>utilites>Activity Monitor you will see the iDVD, while in the process for burning a DVD, is way process and resource hogging.

hope something I said can help or get ya going :)

Thanks - I've removed the preferences file. I'm in the process of making a better DVD now so I'll let you know what its like when it burns this time.

Good to see yours has fixed itself. :)

Best Quality or Best Performance?

Were you guys using "Best Quality" (longer than 60 minutes of content) or "Best Performance" (60 minutes or less) when you burned your DVD?

My G5 hangs on the BQ setting when I try to burn a 1h15m video, but I can burn it in Toast fine (not nearly as flexible as iDVD for DVD creation though). I've also been able to burn smaller videos using the BP setting in iDVD with no problems. Just wondering if I should try deleting com.apple.iDVD.plist and give the longer movie another shot in iDVD.

Mine was on the 60 minute version but I guess I did not know how much it would take due to the fact they were slideshows.

The old iDVD used a system whereby it automatically switched to poorer quality if it was over 60 minutes. This newer system seems less intelligent. Maybe that was the cause of the problem but I will not know for sure until I try my next burn.

Yeah, funny how when recording over an hour of content "Best Quality" is actually not...
