IE 8 seems to be coming along nicely. Hopefully Apple will incorporate some of the new features into Safari 4.

The segment on InPrivate is funny though... Sometimes you don't want to leave any trace of specific web browsing activity, such as when checking e-mail at an Internet café or shopping for a gift on a family PC. ... I think they forgot the obvious use for such a feature... ;)

Now if they can just make it secure I might think about using it at work on my PC. However it still remains the more vulnerable browser going and it can have all the nice features that it wants but without better security it means nothing.

Yeah, somehow Microsoft is not synonymous with security. They'll hastily release it, then need to send out 4 million patches in a weeks time to fill holes, etc.

I used to be a huge MS proponent. But since Vista's release, I've really gotten bitter. I still use their Mail systems/Servers at work, but I've started the process of looking at alternatives for those where I can...

To be fair, they're hardly alone in that practice - it seems that nowadays, with the ease of updating software, firmware, etc over the internet, most companies (including Apple) don't bother too much with getting things right first time but rely on the fact they can patch it later.

Nice features, although really they're kind of just catching up to Firefox/Safari. As far as standards go, I wonder how much under-the-hood changes/improvements they've done or intend to do.

Supposedly, they have made IE8 standards compliant by default. (http://blog.wired.com/monkeybites/2008/03/microsoft-backs.html). The problem is that normal users probably won't upgrade right away so you're still stuck coding for IE6 and IE7.

It looks like they have included a lot of security and stability features and other cosmetic "enhancements". I'd much prefer that they slim down their browser to enhance performance and then allow users to customize their experience via extensions/add-ons (ala Firefox).

Nice improvements but I won't be running to switch from Firefox anytime soon.
