If I add aTV Flash & just add the codecs can I use the exact same interface as stock Apple v3 software?

What I mean I'm not bothered about Boxee/XMBC etc I just want it to play my DivX/Xvid files to save converting them.

I like the interface as is now from Apple, so can I just add the codecs or do I have to have some other way of see the media on my PC to stream?

Or could I not just add another menu item under movies, for eg More movies.. and this just be a link to a folder for listing the DivX movies etc?

I want to keep it "wife proof" and she can use as is now

Yes, you use the same UI, but you will have to install at least one so-called plugin, such as ATVFiles to play your files.
The ATVFiles plugin lets you play your non-iTunes files in the same way you would use the standard UI, so it is "wife-proof" :)

Ok great, that would be enough for me then, does it still allow you to go back to stock AppleTV for warranty issues incase? ie Apple cant find out that you have patched it?

Is it just a link to a folder on my PC then with ATVFiles? ie soemhow I set it up to just look at a foldr on my PC? or do I still have to add the files to iTunes somehow? Also I stream wirelessly via "N" so can I still do it this way with it patched with ATVFiles?

Is ATVFiles the best/simplest way? not bothered about Boxee etc, just want the same Apple TV v3 interface? any other plug-ins? or is this the best/simplest?

cheers

Bump....

As above, still deciding whether to buy ATVFlash right now or not and do the re-encoding...

I've read the tutorials on ATVFlash and even after plugging in the USB you then have to run the smart installer thing. Do I have to if all I want is ARV files, or the USB port unlocking?

ps is it possible to rename the ATVFiles menu item to something I want? eg Extra Movies or something?

Cheers
