EDIT: May be useful to forward people to a website of pics you've been working on, perhaps before and after shots. Even if it's something simple to show off your efforts, may help you develop your skills as well. If you include a comments option on the site, perhaps people will leave feedback/suggestions.

nagromme came up with a suggestion[1] for making applications and executables look different to regular files and directories (so that malicious software can't pretend to be a jpeg or similar). The idea was to put a blue glow around the logo.

Other similar ideas included making the glow throb gently, or instead giving the application logo a throbbing perspective shadow underneath, or making the logo twinkle/sparkle gently.

It would be cool to see a series of mock-ups of a finder window showing the contents of the applications folder, and an application on the backdrop, with each of these suggestions implemented.
