On my office phone, I can hit -transfer- and it will transfer the phone call to the -softphone UC- app on my iPhone.
If the app is not open on my phone, and background refresh is not turned on, when I hit -transfer- to softphone from my physical phone....and the app opens up and -rings-, how is this possible if the app is not open under IOS? ?

How exactly does it look when the call comes in on the device when it's transferred there?

Background app refresh means the app is preemptively asked, or triggered, to update in the background. Your softphone app is using a different API, push notifications. Apps can be opened and allowed to do tasks in direct response to a push notification. Once the app opens, it is using the VoIP APIs to ring.

I could be wrong here but, I believe that you inadvertently gave permissions to the app to function as it is.

Delete the app and go through the setup process again, and see what set up options you are asked about.

Thread #3. Interesting. So in theory, there are -apps- that are running in the background even though it's not open ?

When I hit -transfer- in my (office phone), the screen on the apps shows a blurred wallaper, my name on top, I bilieve it shows the App Name and the Word Audio and then the 3 typical (phone buttons below - red X, gree pickup, and the send message option). Once I click pickup, my softphone VOIP -app- opens up.

Which leads to to the next ? then. Are we basically concluding apps, even though they may not appear open, can be open in the foreground in IOS ?

It sounds like this just CallKit in action, which basically just works off of regular app notifications -- which come in whether or not the app is open -- and displays them as a call for those that are designated as such for various VoIP type of apps (including more typical messenger apps that support calls, like Skype, Facebook Messenger, etc.).
