If Apple had turned the 12" PB into a 12" MBP, would you own that computer today?

If Apple had turned the 12" PowerBook into a 12" MacBook Pro, would you own that computer today?
 
Hell yes! BTW, last week I took my family to Disneyland and I brought my PB 12" along. It fit nice and cozy in the hotel room safe. I'm pretty sure the MB would have barely fit but the MBP wouldn't have.

I've been tempted to get a MB but I still can't pull the trigger yet on it. My PB 12" continues to serve me well and I plan to install Leopard on it in October then see if there's a 12" or 13" MBP that comes out next year.
 
I would want one for sure. My favorite laptops have all been 10.6" screens. Even the Macbook is way too big for what I would really like to do with a laptop. I use a MPB on the mac side right now, but more as a desktop replacement.

I am looking forward to getting a 10" eeepc if it turns out to be real. I feel that the 4"-5" super compacts are a waste of money, and I instead have a nice cell phone... Something in a 10"-12" format would be ideal for me, and I would love a Mac option. I bought a refurb XPS M1210 recently, which will fill the void nicely, and still has an expresscard slot for my broadband card.

Even a further gloried iphone with freedom to modify the contents would leave me happy. I just want something where I can do basic productivity tasks, and then phone home to the beefy computers if need be. The iphone is just about there, other than the fact that flash is missing, I cannot modify the contents of the phone (save files, etc...), and I cannot enter text in the body of my joomla content editor...
 
The 12" Powerbooks were really amazing. Their size and weight were really ideal for a lot of people. With the current mb/mbp lineup, I can barely discern a difference in terms of portability. The weight is nearly the same for both the 15" and 13" models, so where's the advantage? The size of the macbook is a little better, but it still leaves a lot to be desired. I guess that sub notebook rumor is our only hope now.:(
 
While the size is perfect for carrying, I think that the screen is both too small and the resolution is too low. 1024x768 just doesn't work anymore.
 
I wouldn't. The 12" PB G4 was 4.6lbs. Granted that's about 0.8 lbs lighter, I'd want it to be 4 or less.

The full size ports on the MBP just can't provide the tight fit I need... The drawings of those ports that shift in size on the Apple patent look like I might be able to fill them up and feel like I am parking my bike in an airplane hanger...

More seriously, the MB and 15" MBP both stress under their weight if you pick them up in a corner. Give me an ultralight without that problem and then we are talking...

Optical drive, no need. They are used less and less every day.

12" or even 10.6" 1280x800, more than okay for mobile use. Same # of pixels as the MB.

Solid state drive? Sounds good...

Fingerworks era iphone style keyboard/input combo, getting better...

Even make a dock. Why not? I loved the concept of the dock, although it seems like it was never done right. The bookendz ones would be almost there, but they should be about $75, which would still provide them with an insane markup if they built them on a larger scale.

Wow! $300 for the 15" MBP and $160 for the MB. Crazy...
 
It had too many limitations then and probably more now, considering trying to stuff more into the same space.

Would those happy with the idea be okay with the integrated Intel graphics, which would probably be in a 12 inch MacBook Pro?
 
I would but I'm into video editing and I think I would want as much screen space as possible (And I don't really like the idea of hooking up a laptop to a monitor).
 
I wonder if most of the Yes votes own(ed) a 12" PB while most of the No votes have not.
 
Absolutely. I love my 12" Powerbook. If I could have its portability with 3x the performance, I'd be all over it.

Could be. Although I have never owned a 12" PB, I know how valuable it was, and how I would have much prefered a 12" mbp over the 15" one I have now. I think what's more likely is the people who voted "no" simply want a bigger screen and don't have the need for a more portable machine.
 
I own a Powerbook 12' and i voted yes. Should Apple release a small laptop (10 to 12' screen), I would buy it in a heartbeat.

If ever released, I wish such a machine would boast outstanding battery life and increased resolution from the PB 12'.

I do not care about performance, as I do not use my Macs to do CPU-intensive tasks (no Photoshop, no video editing, etc.)
 
I have a Macbook, but I'd love more real state in its screen. 1440x900 is a bit better, but 1680x1050 would be just sweet, in 15 inches :). Sadly I can't afford a MBP just now. (If could get rid of my other 2 lappys (pcs) I would.) The speed is ok, two procs are fantastic, I will upgrade to a 250GB disk in few days and to 2 GB next month. A couple more USBs can be handy, and a less noisy optical drive also... well I have OSX.
The portabily of the Macbook is just right for me. Sadly the screen is a bit small :-(, resolution-wise.

I hope Apple brings a tablet, a good one, with OSX :), 20 or so mm thick and not bigger than 10 inches diagonal, no keyboard, no optical drive, just solid state, many hs of battery life. That is what we need, that would replace scratch paper ;). But that can not work if the hand writing recognition soft is not integrated in a way that replaces a paper notebook. The hardware is there, but the soft... :apple:
 
Yes yes yes. But they'd have to up the resolution a bit and not cripple it as much as they did compared to the 15" and 17" - by that I mean use the same graphics card, allow the same amount of RAM and ideally include the backlit keyboard too.

I love my new MBP but I picked up my 12" PowerBook the other day and was so amazed by the small size of it again... *sigh*
 
I owned a 12" PB and still miss it badly. However there should be a maybe option IMO, for those who would want to weigh the differences between the 12" ultraportable and a MacBook if the differences (in size/power ratio) are negligible then i'd have to go with the MacBook
