If Apple moves to standard chips will Apple be more successful?

I may be completely wrong here because I'm speculating, but is the core shutdown issue perhaps related to Apple using a special chipset that nobody had used before?

If Apple moves to the new standard chips will they have more technical information available so that overheating is prevented?

Also, will the newer intel graphics processor, the 4500hd be able to play hd videos from itunes flawlessly?

The current X3100 plays iTunes HD flawlessly, just not on the Air. Its a integrated solution, its speed is dependent on the system.

No you can't have a Macbook Air with standard parts unless you want one that is an inch thick, which would defy the purpose of having it.

I think I need to claify a bit of what I meant. When I said "standard" chips, I did not mean standard size chips. I thought I read an article a few days back saying that intel had released a new chip that would fit in the macbook air, I can't find that article now so I'm not sure.

Also, the X3100 to my knowledge does not play a role in video decoding, which is why the macbook air can not play itunes hd flawlessly since you need a 2.0ghz processor meaning the processor takes most or all of the load. The the "hd" in the 4500hd means that integrated graphics card will take the bulk load of the processing and will play HD smoothly, at least a blu-ray disk will play smoothly. In short, a blu-ray equipped laptop with a 4500 hd will play blu-ray flawlessly even if you have a slow processor.

I don't know if the HD decoding applies to thinks like itunes videos or just blu-ray though.

The macbook air does use bog standard intel chips except that the processor is on a smaller package to provide more space but the chip is the same as a normal core2duo chip and the chip is the same size.
There is nothing non standard in the air except for the processor packaging and that everything has to operate in such a small space witch causes heat issues.
And the GMA 3100 and 4100 both have video decoding on chip but OSX makes no use of this at all with the current version of Quicktime, though Quicktime X is set to take advantage of these features.

Where are you getting your information from? I'm getting mine from intel's website, please let me know if I interpreted this incorrectly.

That is talking about the whole chipset, not just the integrated graphics card.
