It's all in the title. I just wanted to reinstall Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro and I want to make sure it won't delete my User files. I currently have no back ups but I am creating some now using rsync. I'm also using crashplan.
Nope... a standard reinstall will not delete your user files.
To delete you user files you would have to start Disk Utility in the installer screen and format the entire drive. Not something you are going to slip up and do by accident.
What about my settings? Like my dock setup?
Thanks! So If I just wanted to reinstall OS X Mountain Lion on my computer just cause I felt like my computer might run a little better(or to help my paranoia) could I do that? How long will it take?
If you have not already made a USB key installer, the entire 4.7GB installl will need to redownload... so however long that takes on your connection.
After that is you have a newer machine with an SSD the reinstall only takes around 30 minutes. An older machine without SSD, almost an hour.
oh yeah! Won't I have to re-download OS X Mountain Lion which is 20 dollars?
You will have to redownload yes, but you won't have to pay for it again.
