No, this is highly unlikely. iTunes will know that you have bought it from the States and will forever lock it after you do a firmware update. One of the reasons why I waited for the UK release. Happy for somebody else to correct me.

Yea just wait. Even if you could eventually register it in Canada, if it breaks before they release it in Canada, it's impossible, or at lease very difficult, to have it fixed under warranty.
