2g that is, can i Unlock/jailbreak it without a sim card? Because I only have t-mobile, so will i need to buy it unlocked or can I do so without a sim in it.

You can buy a locked or unlocked phone off of ebay since you don't need a sim to unlock the phone. Once you unlock it, you can just slip in your T-Mobile sim to it and it will be ready to go.
