I'm thinking of buying the new 27" 2011 iMac refresh. If I decided to buy my own RAM and install it myself (say about 8 GB), what should I buy? which is best? Please suggest me something I can buy from Amazon.com. Also, how do I install it? Point of this is to save over the RAM Apple supplies in their BTO's.

Thanks!.

All RAM is basically the same. Just be sure to buy 1333MHz DDR3 SODIMMs, which are usually listed as laptop memory. It's just a different physical size, but works exactly the same. Don't get sucked into buying Mac memory either, that's a scam. Installation is easy, there's a panel on the bottom that you unscrew, and pop the new in. You can add the 8GB you buy to get 12GB total.

does it matter if you're adding 2 4gb sticks with 2 2gb sticks? doesn't that wear harder on the ram or something?

Can you please provide me with a link to some RAM from Amazon? (just as an example)...
Thanks

I'm joking :D sure I can google it myself, I found this: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-DDR3-...F8ZG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304467081&sr=8-1 will that do? it seems to be laptop size.

ok haha i was thinking uh oh!

i'm fairly sure laptop size is what youd want, but i am DEFINITELY not techie enough to know for sure. thats what I have in my shopping cart (laptop size) for when I get mine next week.

this to be exact...

yes, it seems to match yours as well. Installation is simple and easy?

Mine is 204 pins right?

That's what I'm wondering about. Been going back and forth on the iMac or MBP but I don't know if the RAM upgrade would be as easy in an all in one...can't wait to hear.

I think it's $200 more to get 8GB ram from Apple...could be mistaken though.
