I've had Iphones since 3G came out... My wife and I, and both kids. The rest of the crew want to stay Iphone, but I'm bored, feel like piddling....

If I get a S4, I was thinking of getting an IPAD since my whole family is on IOS (we use apple tv throughout the house, and have lots of $$ in movies, tv shows, and music from apple).

But I'm wondering, would I be better off getting android tablet, and embracing the change in OS... I'm assuming I can convert my apple music to mp3 and use on S4. I'll have to just give up the thought of getting our IOS video content on Android devices.... lastly, TIVO stream only works with IOS,not android... that is another perk to getting a wifi ipad to compliment S4...

will I be disapointed running two diferent OS on my phone and tablet?

I wanted to try an Android tablet too. Tried the Nexus 7 returned it in 2 weeks. Wanted to try a 10" Android but since they still don't make one with 3/4G it wasn't an option.

I'm yet to find anything remotely close to an iPad for both my business and entertainment needs.

Nexus 7, nexus 10, note 10.1 are the best ones for the most part. The upcoming note 8 as well.

I finally went to android and am loving it but for tablet i still think ipad is good. Im not carrying it everywhere so I dont need to customise it or anything and with the apple tv airplay is great. If i were to get an android tablet it would def be nexus 10, it also has a great screen and its also got a good processor.

If a new note 10.1 came out that would also be an option but I havent heard any news about it coming. The last one came out about june no?

The processor in the nexus 10 is amazing. Cortex a15 is a huge jump from a9, krait, and the a6.

I find using 2 OS's as a plus rather than a minus as I get the best of both worlds and I find I dont really need my phone to pair with my tablet like my computer, apart from dropbox which works well on both (prob better tho on android you will love the change im sure)

If you have to get an android tablet, then get a nexus 7. Good price, good value and a good tablet. However, I would recommend an ipad to anyone needing a tablet. I've tried the asus, surface, surface pro, etc and none of them come close. Android is light years beyond iPhone but what it comes to tablets, apple has really nailed it.

Thanks for all the advice... I think I'll wait and see what shakes up with IPAD anouncements for the summer, but go on ahead and pick up a GS4 with a plan to pick up an ipad when the time is right (i.e. new releaese, or reason to believe we are still a ways out from a new release).

Given that people (like me) that bought Iphone 4S at release are now around the 18 month mark, and eligible for discounted phones, I wonder if there will be more than normal IOS to Android converts. I'm a bit surprised that apple doesn't regard contract timing as a significant contributor for product anouncemnt / release cycle... I'm interested in check out droid either way, but my son is on the fence...

Thanks again for the advice.

Not interested in the 8.0 galaxy note?

It's just that our whole family is so in bed with IOS, I'm going to stay IOS on tablet, and figure out a way to convert apple music purchases to standard files so I can use them on S4. I'm not saying which tablet is better, my original post was just me pondering if I would regret running diferent OS on phone and tablet, and I think I found strong support that it's not bad. I guess going for best of both worlds instead of synergy from being all one OS.

They are already 'standard' files - AAC audio. No DRM anymore.
AFAIK Google Play will sync them to an Android phone.

Guess it depends on your needs

ipad is better generally but if you like to watch movies/TV shows the note is better as you can store as much as you want with the SD cards...

good point, thanks for the info. Another bias for me is that we have tivo units througout house (kinda silly, but 12 tuners total), and tivo stream only allows playback on IOS, not Android. They are going to release an Android version at some point however.

Another less traveled option is a windows tablet, IMO specifically an Atom powered tablet. I've always found iOS and Android tablets much too limiting and never realized just how much until I owned my first Windows tablet, and I will never ever go back.
