If I had malware would updating OS X get rid of it??

I know if the OS X update targets a particular malware the update would get rid of it, but what about unforeseen malware? Is installing an update almost like doing a clean install wiping clean the OS? Perhaps an update does a partial "cleaning" of the OS??

probably not. get AVG free antivirus. i used it many times for few clients. is good at detecting all and has very good full system scan (takes long though)
