I have an external NAS-type of set up with my media files. As I understand it, I'll need the Mac to be running to stream iTunes content to the new Apple TV.

But if I jailbreak and use plex, will I still need to have the Mac running to view my content, or can I just have the apple TV via plex just point to the files in the NAS?

You will still need to have the plex media server running on your box, so either way you slice it jb or not, you will your mac running.

If that's the case, I might be better off purchasing a mac mini for least amount of clutter. Of course, it's like 7x the price...

Or I could go for a wdtv or something..although the inferior UI makes me not want to go that route.

I guess I'll keep looking for a happy middle ground.
