I’m trying to look this up but I can’t find a clear explanation...

I currently have about 2000 songs that I own, on my PC in iTunes and also synced to my iPhone.

If I sign up for Apple Music what happens to this library? Does it stay there on my PC and iPhone? Is it affected in any way?

My existing music library was uploaded to Apple Music. I cannot comment on Windows iTunes, but in the Music directory on my Mac, it split the library out with my purchased music and music I downloaded with Apple Music. My iPhone does not really show a difference. In my experience very smooth transition from iTunes to Apple Music.

Your library just gets merged with Apple Music and the Icloud. Itunes really doesn't change all that much, other than it takes maybe a day to update play counts and the like.
