here's the hypothetical scenario:

I have a few physical/email Apple gift cards and I redeem them into my Apple account, the available balance becomes $1250

I order the iPhone 13 Pro Max 128gb and pay the $1209(phone + sales tax) on Apple.com

When the phone arrives in a month(more like mid-November), I change my mind, so I ship the phone back to Apple.com.

How will Apple refund me? Will they just put the $1209 back into my Apple account balance?(so I can order a different iPhone)

I have never returned anything to Apple.com in the last several years, so I have no idea how they handle refunds.

Thanks!

Yes, they refund whatever payment method you use.

I assume the Apple account balance is good forever, right?

(meaning if I decide to wait for iPhone 20 with direct brain wave input instead, the $1250 will still be good?)

Yes, your balance will stay in your account indefinitely.

perhaps i can wait and see if they are still in my Apple account in the year 2051? :)

the longest "balance" in any of my accounts has to be my Pan Am frequent flier miles. they are about 30 years old this year... After Pan Am suspended operation back in 1991, my remaining 170,000 miles were transferred and taken over by Delta Airlines. As of today, those 170,000 miles are still in my Delta account and unused. I don't fly Delta anymore because they were responsible to Pan Am's demise, but I do occasionally buy something that earns some miles in order to keep the account active. One of these days, I'll use those original 170,000 Pan Am miles.(which were earned back when I flew between the US and UK/Germany every 2 weeks for work) :)
