I reserved an iPad to be picked up about 3 days ago. Am I guaranteed to get one if I get to the store by 3?

I mean I know that's what reserve is for. But I remember GameStop pulled that with Halo 3 where they just gave em all out and those that reserved didn't get a copy.

But mainly I'm asking because I'm convinced I saw news here or on another site about this same concern.

Yes, I don't see why not. If not, I can see a lot of people being extremely upset.

Don't forget you need to show up in the window they specified (it seems to be universally 9am-3pm). After 3pm all bets are off.

Anything can happen. But I would 99.9% guarantee, the people with reserves will get one.

I talked to two separate people at the local Apple store on two different days. They told me "100%, no questions asked - if I reserve an iPad, I will get one"

I'm not worried about it. For those of us that reserved. I'm sure we'll get.

However, I'm starting to wonder now how crowded the stores will be..

I think there would be a lot of angry people otherwise!

On Launch Day do be sure to take some proof that you reserved: either a printout of the confirmation email you received or keep that email on your iPhone or other smartphone to show the people at the Apple store that day.

so stereotypical. joke :)

i sorta think...there will be a fiasco..i can feel it.

*edit* im sorry, CATASTROPHE would be better instead of fiasco.

I saw that apparently Apple has closed their reservations for iPad's to be delivered on April 3, and now if you order a WiFi only iPad the delivery date is April 12th.

The 3G iPads are unaffected by this and are still listed for delivery "late April." Since the actual delivery date on these depends on FCC approval etc. I'm hoping for something before May 15th.

It's not Apple where I see the problem, but the Federal Bureaucracy.

Sorry? What's the "stereotypical joke" bit about? The Launch process? The suggestion that someone should have evidence that he or she had actually reserved an iPad? The preorder home delivery service? What?

Or do you think the whole thing will simply fall apart?

I'd be willing to say that Apple has learned a few lessons over the years of various product launches and that we won't see the kind of situation that occurred when they tried to launch too much all at once.

Well, I guess we'll see on April 3rd!

the "bring your iphone" part. just because were buying iPads dont be we have iPhones too. just a joke.

would it be bad if alot of people who "reserved" didnt show up?

If you look again at my post, you'll see that in fact I DID also mention "or other smartphone," as I realize that not everyone has an iPhone! However, since this IS an Apple-related forum, I'd venture to say that many of us who participate on here in fact DO use an iPhone......

As long as you pre-ordered and pick it up before 3pm you are guaranteed your iPad. They keep reserves them in the back room, once they check your name off they bring the iPad to you. I'm saying this because I pre-ordered my iPhone 3GS for in store pickup. When I got there I there was a seperate line for reservations. I was told that they sold out of the 32GB iPhone 3GS (the one I pre-ordered) and I almost flipped out. I was told since I pre-ordered it was in the back of the store. They had someone bring it out from the backroom, and I was out of the store within 15 minutes. It'll e faster with the iPad since they don't have to activate it.

So, as long as you reserved before Apple stopped taking reservations yesterday you are guaranteed the iPad you ordered.

possible ipad sales = iphone x2?

because you dont need to have a contract/sign up for service for this?

"99.9% guarantee". Oh, the cognitive dissonance.

No, you aren't guaranteed to get one. You'll probably get one, and you'll certainly get one before anyone who didn't reserve, but that's as close to "guaranteed" as you can get with this.

Interesting. The northern California stores won't say that and have no idea how many they'll be receiving. They will only say that the reservation line will be fulfilled first and that they expect to be able to fill all reservations.

They don't give exact numbers. Even on the iPhone / iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS they always told me we can't give you inventory numbers.

Ok, I shouldn't have used the word guarantee. But you knew what i meant when I said 99.9%. As I said, anything can happen.

I really dont think this is going to be as bad as the iphone first day deliveries. Especially with pre orders. Pre ordering IS SWEET! Also, no ATT BS involved.
Here is my name, here is my ID, Here is My Credit card, Here is your box, here is your reciept, now GET THE "F" out of the store!

I also think that the "Apr 3 delivery" date will disappear on Apples site, shortly before the initial date, so they can actually deliver them at a reasonable date. Wonder exactly when apple will take that down.

For ordering? It's gone already. Next batch is the 12th.

The preorders will get the 3rd until the fedex system picks up the package and all that. Hopefully in the next day or so!

If you didn't pre-order or reserve one in time, you now have to wait until the 12th of april... unless you are lucky and just walk in a store where they have one extra.

Best luck in fairly unknown stores.

Nothing is 100%, but I imagine Apple's plan is to send enough units to each store to fill pre-orders. They may or may-not factor in no-shows. That's probably the tricky area. But if you show up that morning, I would be surprised if someone w/ reservation walked away empty handed.

The FCC has already approved the 3G version, or else Apple wouldn't be able to offer them for sale through their website.

The delivery date has to do with the manufacturing rate, relative demand compared to the wifi version, and the speed of that slow boat from China. Though I'm sure you can find some other things to blame the Federal Gubmint for, if you'd like.
