If I turn on iCloud on MacBook everything gets merged?

I have a MacBook with lots of bookmarks and notes. If I turn on iCloud all of that simply gets merged with what's already in the iCloud right?

Should I be careful of some kind of dupes/overwrites? What about bookmark folders that may have the same name?


As a side note, sometimes when I use Notes on my iPhone without internet, when I get to a place that has internet and iCould starts synching I get dupes of the same Notes. It's very frustrating and makes it impossible to track which Notes actually contain all the correct data. Screenshot attached. You can see all the dupes of "Notes".

Right. BIG note of caution though...backup your stuff locally or to Dropbox or some other source BEFORE checking that button. Then, if you don't like what you see, remove it all from iCloud and do a fresh sync with the local data.

you mean backup the Macbook? What about the stuff already in iCloud?

Just because it's in iCloud doesn't mean it's foolproof - I do a weekly backup of ALL my iCloud data to Dropbox. Just in case.

Well the data is on my iDevices, Mac and iCloud so unless ALL goes down at the same time I'm not worried. PLus it's non vital data.

Ok - I mean, you don't have to convince me - I'm just very paranoid about at least two backups of critical data.
