This always comes up when somebody downloads an app or OS and then the next day (or week or month) it upgrades. Apple usually gives them the upgrade but the time can vary from purchase of the old app/OS and it's upgrade .

Any ideas on How Maverick will work?
I read that it should be coming out 10/13, less then a month from now.

Thanks Intell
Not a big deal , I'd probably want to wait a few months anyway (or more) to let Apple work out the bugs.
I'm not sure I can even upgrade with my black Macbook 4,1

That's a drag since I've read that ML is just an improved Lion.
From another thread I read it sounds like I don't have the RAM it requires.

Good idea.

Wikipedia says that OS X 10.7.5 is the last compatible version of OS X for your computer.

That's really a great link , thanks Mr.R

I guess I'll start looking for a Macbook 5,2. That's the earliest one that runs ML.
But will it run Mavericks?

So I'll probably go ahead and put ML on my iMac and I should be able to put it on another laptop if I get it before Mavericks comes out.

Any idea of what would happen if I tried to upgrade the black macbook ML?

If the Mac can run 10.8, it can run 10.9. If you try to install 10.8+ on a Blackbook, it won't boot. You'll get the prohibited sign. It won't even download it from the Mac App Store.
