Hello, the rMBP 15" 2014 bought by school could satisfy all my needs but I have no access to it anymore. Given that laptops these days are either thin (noisy and have thermal throttling) or heavy (over 1.8kg), is buying a lightweight (1.8kg or below) laptop and a powerful desktop the only way to go? From my experience with the MBP 15", 17", Thinkpad X1E and X1 Yoga (WQHD screen), I do need a 15" laptop screen with resolutions over WQHD. 1.9kg and over is too heavy for me as I need to carry other stuffs as well.

Driving 4K monitor, watching 4K videos, playing 4K games, Developing codes, CAD, Matlab&Simulink, CUDA computations. Too bad IPP can't do any of these. I only found it good for surfing the web and watching youtube videos on its own screen.

I have a phone, tablet, laptop, and some (very large) desktops, and the most important consideration I find is not only how much I can see, but (thanks to these aging eyes) how clearly I can see it.

Two 27" 4K screens connected to my desktop/s is as easy on the eyes as it gets ;)

Rather than dragging-around all that hardware wherever I go, the 13" MBP suffices pretty well.

Even-so, the iPhone does the job when I'm (literally) out in the Field, etc.

My wife's Surface is an awesome piece of kit, but I find that it's even more awesome when she plugs it into a 27" screen . . .

. . . if you need to pick-and-choose ($/space/yet-another-device)--and do not need OS X--a Surface+monitor@home is a really great way to go.

If you have no particular $/space consideration/s, I would suggest as much hardware as you can handle, and enjoy it all (wherever you are) ;)

Regards, splifingate
