If IB or PB is main computer...disconnect battery?

I was taught that to preserve battery life one should take out their notebook battery if they are going to be using it as a desktop with occasional travel. Is a person suppose to take out their notebook battery if they are going to stay plugged in for ahwile? After a battery if fully charged...are they suppose to take out the power suply as well or can they just work and leave it on without harming battery life?
 
Nope. You don't need to. Apple uses pretty cool technology that means the battery will stop charging at 100% and not start again until about 95% to prevent over charging and constant small charges. :)
 
Will an iBook even work with no battery? I'm not game to try it.






Okay, I'm just too lazy to shut it down, take the cell out, and try to get it started again. :eek:
 
I only use my battery only once or twice a week. Most of the time it's plugged in. I'm also normally in my bed so I move around quite frequently. I remove the battery after it's charged. Not for any other reason other than it makes the PowerBook lighter. I'm sure that's a silly reason but it suits me.
 
As stated above (I think), remember to fully drain your battery about once a month, so it gets a full charge at least once a month (as recommend by apple). :)
 
I have always heard that leaving it plugged in for long periods of time kills the battery life.

yeah i've always heard that too, but i've noticed that only works with PC'S. I've had an ibook and apowerbook and just left them plugged in all the time and the battery was fresh as new even a year later. but on several pc laptops i've owned they were drained about 60% within the first year.

Yea, I was also worried, I just keep mine charging at all times, is that okay?

Not a dumb question. Some models (190, iirc) didn't operate without a battery plugged in.

FWIW, my 1999 Lombard PB is usually plugged in, and the battery still lasts well over an hour.
