But for backup it says "never", if I were to restore the phone and sign into iCloud will the contacts come back? I've seen it done before, where you don't necessarily restore from iCloud but set up as a new phone, but however being signed into iCloud the contacts came back, but was that because the phone was previously backed up?. Asking for a friend.

As above everything that's 'on' will be backed up.

The backup function is everything else that's on your iPhone.

Awesome, thanks guys. They want to of set up their phone as new but just get their contacts back and I said they should be able to since it was turned on but just wanted confirmation.
[doublepost=1462927701][/doublepost]OK, so I had another friend tell me otherwise that because it hasn't done a backup then it has no way of retreiving the info.. but if it's turned on then it normally backs up itself doesn't it??

When you turn on those toggles, it's syncing it to iCloud.com (so you can access the info on the website, your Mac, and other devices), so yes, it'll be there when you log into iCloud on a new setup.

A iCloud Backup WOULD include a copy of that data though because it's backing up whatever's on the device at the time. It's works like how iTunes used to do it when you plugged in your device on a computer.

Thanks, Jess. I thought that as well because as soon as I signed into iCloud on my Mac, my iPhone contacts started syncing to the contacts app. Thanks for breaking it down cause I had a blonde moment :)
