I have a heavily updated Mac Pro 5,1 (video, BT, storage, CPUs, RAM) running Mojave, and a MacBook Air 7,2 also running Mojave. The two machines share a common iCloud account and so also things like keychain etc.

If I update my MBA to run Catalina will I encounter any issues if the Mac Pro stays on Mojave? I'm guessing not, but would prefer to not find out after the event... so if anyone has done this and found either it works or it doesn't I'd be interested to know.

At some point I'll have a go at updating the 5,1 to Catalina - but in short term it is better to flush out any workflow issues via Laptop than go all-in and find I'm trying to fix things retrospectively :)

Thanks in advance for any help with question.

I doubt it. I have used El Cap and High Sierra/Mojave machines sharing an account.

Did you read the posts of people who upgraded to Catalina and are fighting to return to Mojave?
Catalina is certainly not only a matter of your iCloud account!
You should think it over and over and over and learn from the experience of others.
Not everything NEWER is only because of THAT more convenient for every Mac user.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm in no hurry to update, but recognise also that sooner or later it will become necessary: updating the laptop might allow me to work out whatever issues I'm going to have before moving my main machine over (if it can be done in a sensible way). But I guess I am also aware that it may not work to update my Mac Pro, so I might end up in the situation described in question - hence the question...;)

should be ok for iCloud pushed / sync items such as Calendar, Notes, etc.
(not too sure about Reminders between Catalina/Mojave (as there was a difference between iOS and Mojave Reminders requiring iOS new Reminder users to wait until Catalina was out).
but for your own backups and data you wish to push / use on either mac you manage, since Catalina requires APFS, i wonder if its best to make sure Mojave is running APFS as well.
remember that a lot of key software components have changed significantly in Catalina, including how/what /where Preferences are stored in several apps.
Mail structure folders in Library/Mail also would be problematic to move between the two macOS.

No.

Nothing is "moved" between two devices. The account informations is synced, the rest is independently managed on each device.

I have four workplaces (including home) and I work on High Sierra (on the old 17 inch MBP), on Mojave on my 2015 MBP, and on 2 new 16 inch MBP with Catalina. Syncing managed through the same Apple-Id.
