I was just toying around the idea that Apple may surprise us once again, if and when they debut the MacBook (or whatever iBook replacement they have planned)... perhaps they'll bump MBPs to 2.0 and 2.16 (formerly 1.83 and 2.0, respectively) to accommodate "high-end" MacBooks....?

I know this may be out there, but I want to know what others think!!

I don't think they'll move the MBP speed again, and I'd bet the top of the line iBook replacement will be a 1.66GHZ Core Duo, with the cheaper model a Core Solo.

I'd seriously doubt it. The ibook is supposed to be a less powerful machine than the pb. A 14'' ibook isn't just a slightly smaller pb. It's a less powerful laptop. And thus a 15'' mbp will be more powerful than it's 14'' cousin.

agreed. We're not going to see a macbook @ 1.83 Ghz; 1.66 core duo will still be a sweet machine.

All I want is a better optical drive with DL support. I don't care if it is 0.1" thicker!!!
