My iPad Pro 9.7+ got a screen crack and it has a couple other small dings on the chassis. If I take it in to Apple will they replace just the screen and give it back or will they replace the device?

They will replace your screen for sure. Device replacement will only be authorised if they don’t have any in stock.

Hmm ok well it might accidentally get a little more broken then. ;)

Maybe it's best that you read your Apple Care agreement, then you would know for sure.
I have read it, I’m just trying to understand what you meant by that cryptic message

AC+ cracked screen is a full unit replacement
Can you back this up? How do you know?

I can back it up. My recommendation is to reach out to Apple support via chat.
It’s free, it takes about 10 minutes, they can set up a replacement at a store or possibly via mail, overnight both ways.
Use the apple care services/support provided.
Honestly, you have spent more time here asking than you would have with apple support. :)

Okay, you’re probably right :p. That’s what I’ll do, thanks.

Don’t be afraid to use it.
Here my take on it.
So many complain about service. Apple charges a decent amount for this service.
24x7
Call back
Knowledge based articles
Rapid emails with case numbers
With apple care + you also get some decent support on network set up and troubleshooting.
So much more.
I won’t buy any apple product without it.

Mine was cracked and they sent me a new unit. Cost was $49. They sent me the new one and I sent the cracked one back in the box from the new one. They put a hold on my credit card for about $900.

I've been through this many times unfortunately with my son & wife....$49+tax and you get a replacement device. Absolutely worth the $100 for AC+. iPads don't have a screen replacement cost. Without AC+, you have to pay the "out of warranty" cost price.

It sounds like the answer you want to hear is “yes, you’ll get a new device”. After you were told maybe, depends on stock, you decide your best course of action is commit fraud.

Do you feel tall now?

Apple will replace the entire iPad. I have gotten two brand new iPads under AppleCare Plus both for screen issues. Both times I was told that they don't replace screens only the enitre unit. First time I had an iPad that was in pristine condition that suffered from LCD backlight failure the other time was for a very small hairline crack in the corner with no other damage. Replaced both times with no issue for Just $49. Actually only $49 for the cracked screen the LCD backlight failure was replaced for free.

As others have stated Apple does not replace iPad screens only iPhone screens. When an iPad screen gets damaged it is easier to just replace the entire device. If you ever looked at one of Ifixits teardowns on an iPad you would see why it makes dissasembling an iPhone look like a walk in the park. It simply it is not cost effective to replace screens in store for Apple. On another note, Apple also does not replace iPad batteries if yours is failing they replace the entire device. I suppose the broken iPad do get sent back to a factory where they are refurbished.

They will replace it. It's too difficult to replace the screen. AppleCare+ is worth it. I dropped my Air 2 face down on ceramic tile and it destroyed it. It looked like those iPads you see people bend in videos. One chat with Apple and I had an express replacement shipped and delivered within two days! I buy AC+ for all my devices.

‘Twas a joke, simmer down.

I’ve been critical of other people on these forums who use AC+ as an entitlement for 2 new iPads, I’d never stoop to that level.
