It will not go to sleep, the autolock will not work, the screen will stay on forever, but if I move the lamp 6 inches further away, every single time it works properly and goes off.

Just a bedside table lamp with an LED bulb in it.

Yes, I also have discovered that I need a better place to keep my iPhone when I am in bed.
Not because of a lamp, but because my iPhone refuses to wake me up, unless I have to move a few feet to shut of the alarm. I go back to sleep too easily, if I don't start moving - so I keep my iPhone a few feet away - wakes me up now!

Sounds like there is something in that lamp that won't allow your iPhone to sleep (obviously).
Is it one of those touch-on, touch-off lamps? Maybe that's it.
Good that you found out that a few inches takes care of the issue

No it’s not a touch lamp, really weird.

So, your iPhone reacts when near the lamp, only when the lamp is lit? or simply close to the lamp, lit or not?

I have experimented now and whether the light is on or off or whether a bulb is in the fixture or not, if it’s within 6 inches the phone will not go (auto lock doesn’t work) off but if it’s 10 to 12 inches away it goes off every single time, so I unplugged the lamp from electricity And the problem went away plugged it back in and it started again.

Next I am going to get my wife’s iPhone 14 and see if hers does the same thing.

what about if you set a sleep routine (if you go to bed around the same time daily)? I generally go to bed around the same time and just have my sleep routine set to a certain time so even when I put my phone on the charger before the lockscreen AOD is showing, but then it will go away completely when that time hits

Could there be any change if you turn WiFi off on your iPhone?

Can your lamp be remotely controlled?
Is the lamp a recent change to your room?

Sounds to me like the “Attention Aware Features” could be preventing the phone from going to sleep. Maybe the phone somehow thinks it’s getting attention when it’s under your lamp.

Try turning turning that feature off (in Face ID & Passcode settings) or cover the top half of your phone so it can’t see anything. Does it still stay awake?
