I use Safari for about 85% of my day on my iPad Pro 12.9 2nd generation. Over the past six months I’ve became increasingly frustrated using Safari as it has a tendency to freeze entirely if I try to scrub a video on YouTube and reloads other websites entirely most likely due to the websites overloading the memory with scripts and other ads. So last night I installed 1Blockr and magically atleast so far all my issues have disappeared. So if you have an iPad Air or newer I implore you must obtain an adblocker and dramatically improve your browsing experience today.

Good advice. I use Adblock Plus with Safari and get good performance on Gen 5 iPad. I found some sites were notoriously loaded with ads, making web pages take long to load and the content annoyingly filled with ads. CNN was about the worst.

Is there any app you guys can recommend to block ads also in apps in iOS 11?

What are the tradeoffs between AdBlock and AdBlock Plus ?

Similar, but different development paths and history. AdBlock reportedly not as good in performance on iPad as AdBlock Plus. Most tech review websites recommend AdBlock Plus. But as gobikerider mentioned, 1Blockr is equally effective.

Interesting, they don‘t really mention if it works with iOS 11 on their site. Can you confirm it‘s working and blocking ads in apps in iOS 11. Thanks much!

I can’t confirm if it works as claimed as I don’t run it, but their website does say it’s for IOS 8 or newer. So that presumes working for IOS 11.

An ad blocker is the first thing I download when setting up a device. The web is a CPU-destroying nightmare otherwise.

Content blockers are a must unfortunately. Websites are just overloaded with ads and trackers. I’ve also started trying to use Safari with JavaScript turned off.
