Lets go over this logically. If only ONE BOX is being shipped to stores in preparation for tomorrow's event, that means that only ONE iPhone will be there. Which also probably means that phone will probably be the one on display. If that is the case, MAYBE there wont be a release tomorrow after all!

I guess we have to wait 16 more hours before we know :(

well logically, we have to consider why Apple would send a single iPhone to stores when they would need half a dozen or more for display purposes since a lot of people will be wanting to play with it.

We still don't know if the open-box pictures are in fact real, so until we find out some more hard proof, I'm still with the crowd that says it's just a box of promotional material for the iPhone.

The people that are saying it's a tablet or other new device... I just don't see that happening. If Apple is releasing an entirely new product, why in the world would they freely send it out to people a day or more in advance, knowing that they're not going to *not* open it? They wouldn't give someone else the chance to steal Steve's thunder when he whips it out on stage.

Something tells me it's not even an actual display. Anyone who's been to an apple store knows they like to do it big. One phone on display will cause chaos in the store. Even when the first iPhone was released they had a ton on display. Either the mystery boxes are fake, and not real leaked shots, or they are info about the phone/something completely different, and the stores will get real shipments in the next coming days/weeks etc.

If you believe that the boxes are actually real, then you are probably correct. However, Apple Stores usually have more than one of a product on display if I am not mistaken, and judging by the rumors, stores are only receiving one, which doesn't make sense.

I, personally, think that there is a single 3G iPhone in those boxes. The stores will put it on display, not for people to mess with, just to look at it through the windows in front of the stores (like my local Apple store has a single MBA on a spinning table in a display window).

Of course they could just have software for the employees to put on the computers so customers can see some sort of a "virtual tour".

If you look on zagg.com, you'll see that you can pre-order the 3G iPhone invisible shield right now, and it will ship the last week of June. So this makes me think we won't get our new iPhones until the end of the month.

Well, that's my 2 cents... lol :D

well it might not be one display unit. But judging from what the supposedly leaked photos, it might be one. From that box size though you can probably fit 5-6 iPhones in there. Which is the magic number that most stores display, atleast the ones i have been to.

Oh geez That doesn't mean anything. Last year the iPhone arrived at stores literally hours before launch.

I'm not saying you're wrong but you can't completely rule it out. Anything can happen. We find out tomorrow ;)

It is a condom dispenser, they need to reduce the mess when the next batch of boxes come in.

3G iPhone releasing not that soon.
AT&T memo said 15th I think. It's probably then onwards.

The report from ars technica that London Regent Street has received a box (just one) kinda suggests to me there is some truth to the mysterious box rumors and that sadly we wont see a June 10th release... I'd love to be wrong. But who knows, maybe, just maybe, it's the Apple tablet or something completely unrelated.. one can hope!

Apple seeded fakes to turn attention away from other stuff? Not necessarily other boxes being delivered but 'news' in general. People digging at fake stuff have less time to look at the real stuff.

It would be funny if the box had a single slip of paper saying, "If you're reading this before 6/9/08 10am, you are fired."

Anyone can print off a sticker with an Apple logo and put it on a box. You have to ask yourselves, if the stores are willing to photograph the box, why not photograph its contents?

Clearly fake.

If you think about it they'd really be mad to launch it straight away.

WWDC means absolutely nothing to most people.

If they have subsidised packages (meaning average Joe's might actually be interested) then there is no reason for there not to be significantly more demand for this generation relative to the previous.

Launch at WWDC to all the Apple geeks joy. Let mainstream non-techie media pick up on the announcement in tomorrows papers, launch a strong TV/Poster ad campaign showcasing features and contracts/costs in each nation, then release to even more built up hype and greater audience/awareness.

$$$$$$$$$$$$.

stores get demo handsets in earlier for staff to learn their way round it, thats what happened in UK anyway, stores were provided with one or two handsets about 9 days before launch. so i guess that could be possible again

Stores don't get anything in advance to "learn their way round." This includes Creatives not getting access to learn new software (iLife/iWork/Final Cut/Leopard) until launch day, and Geniuses not seeing new hardware until it launches. If Apple doesn't do that with things like software, there is absolutely no way they would do it with something as massively important as the second iPhone.

looks to me like its gonna happen this week, Both Apple store are showing unavailable on iphones and so is O2:eek:

they did in the UK.

i work for o2 retail and we had iphones for us to learn how to use them and demo them to cust the best way, we got ours on 1st nov with an employee handbook on how to demo them in regards to certain cutomers.

This was due to the idea of paying for a contract phone being completely new in the uk, it was completely unheard of. So we had extra time to learn how to use the phone in regards to selling it.

However we have not got any new phones this time so I guess I've answered my own question. Ha ha. Although we have been told we will have the new phone in 'soon', but again no date.
