...why are new Air 2s on eBay selling for often more than the price of a retail 2017 iPad? I can only assume that people are still seeing value in the better hardware specs (minus the A9) as a reason to buy it over the 2017.

I've seen and fondled the 2017. It's fine. No doubt it's quicker than the Air 2 and will get updates for longer. But the Air2 has a better screen and is thinner and frankly sexier. If the prices were significantly cheaper than the 2017 I'd probably grab one, but as it stands they are both the same price it seems.

Doesn't it only have a better anti-reflective display, thinner profile, and smaller processor? Honestly I doubt most normal users care about that. What's most likely happening is that consumers are used to iPads costing around $500 so they still think it's a deal. They're probably also confused by the naming, and iPad Air 2 sounds like a thinner, newer version of just the plain ol' iPad.

The Air 2 could be selling for more based on the storage, which will hold value over the base models.

Another Reason, I think the iPad Air 2 is also highly rated and has been since it's launch. It's an excellent iPad. The iPad Air 2 also has the laminate display, where asthe 2017 iPad does not. That's Also something to consider.

For the same reason that prices for iPod Classics shot through the roof when they were discontinued.
