If the iPhone ever gets Widgets (without JB)...

I would tend to think if Apple ever incorporated widgets into the iPhone in some future version of iOS... I feel like they would essentially set it up like the Dashboard on a Mac, and keeping them all in one location.

We already have the search screen on the page to the left of page 1 of the home screen (I have never once used this feature). I would modify that into an iOS version of the dashboard.

This is how I would set it up:

- Leave the Search Bar on the top, but do not have the keyboard appear right away like it does now. Have it work just like when reading texts, it does not pop up until you are ready to type.
- Design built in native widgets, similar to those on available on the dashboard.
- Eventually creating a section in the App store that allows developers to release third party widgets.

I'm sure this kinda thing will happen eventually, but the biggest problem I see with this at the moment is processing power.

To make widgets useful, they need to be available 'on-demand' and therefore be updading themselves in the background.

Apple has just put a lot of work in (a few year ago) to make iOS multitasking friendly, and this kind of feature would require the same amount of work and thought to be implemented correctly.

I see this feature coming the day quad-core processors come to the iPhone (2-3 years maybe??)

This is my number one barrier to getting an iPhone.

I make heavy use of widgets in android, and it really is just so convenient to having everything right there in front of you on your home screen.

As soon as iOS implements this natively, I'll be all over an iPhone.
