If the iPod has a 160GB HDD, why couldn't they use it in the MBA?

The iPod has a 160GB 1.8-inch HHD. How come they couldn't put that in a MacBook Air?

Its thicker than the 80GB drive. 160GB shouldn't take too long to come to the Air.

The 80GB is a single platter HD, the 160GB a dual platter. I've heard nothing about anyone having a 160GB single platter 1.8" hard drive in development

The 160 ipod is actually thicker than the 80. (I got two at Christmas to replace our 3 gen ipods.) My daughter got the 80 and I got the 160.

Probably that difference in size made it too difficult to fit into the MBA.

Toshiba is supposedly working on a single-platter 160 GB HD in the 1.8" form factor, but it's not due out until 2009.

And in case anyone wants specifics, the single-platter 80 GB 1.8" HD in the MBA is 5mm thick; the dual-platter, 160 GB 1.8" HD in the iPod Classic is 8 mm thick... 60% thicker, 3mm of extra space that the MBA simply doesn't have inside.
