If the MBP was in 14 would you buy it?

I read that people don't get the 13" MBs because the screen's too small. They don't want the 17" because it's too big and loses portability.

The 15" seems perfect, but I'm wondering if people would prefer the 14" over it if it existed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the gain in portability (weight and size reduction) of a 14" MBP is greater than the loss of screen size. Optimization!

So would you have chosen a 14" MBP over the 15" MBP if the option was there?

Or do you think there's really no difference in 1"?

i'd rather have a 12" or 11" MacBook to be honest. i'm finding it hard to give up on my 12" powerbook

When you look at the 15' MBP and the 13.3" MB in person side by side the difference isnt really that big. The footprint of the MBP is only slightly bigger. So to me the 15" screen is a good size, even though I'll probably get the MB.

I don't know if you are wrong, but I don't see it this way. I think the size and weight would be really close, so in my mind, all you really are loosing is the screen space. I do think they need to make a small form factor MBP, but it needs to be smaller than just a 1" difference to actually make a difference in portability, IMO.

I think anythin between 13' and 15' is perfect size. Anythin else is too big for prodability or too small to actually see anything.

When people say the 17" loses portability over the 15" it always makes me raise an eyebrow, like it's implied that all portability is lost or something. It's bigger by two inches and a pound heavier, but the way people say it you'd think that there's a world of difference between the two. I'll concede that finding a bag for it is harder, but once you have one the rest is trivial.

I wanted power and portability so I opted for the 15.4" MBP. My thinking was I could always get an external display if I needed more screen space. Personally I wouldn't buy a 14" or anything smaller unless I'm an extremely heavy traveler. Which I'm not. Also, there should probably be more of a distinction between the 14" and the 15", if you're going to make a small notebook, make it small.

14'' Lcd screens are not mass produced so it would be difficult for Apple to price them competitively.

wouldn't a 14" be just 6/10 inch larger than a 13.4" macbook?
and that the diagonal measure, so the width would only be less than a 1/4" difference.
i can't see that that would give you a huge difference in screen space!

it'd be bad business to offer 13.3", 14" and 15.4" notebooks. If they are going to add another notebook to the range, they would be better to make a sub-notebook (10").

Before I bought my present MBP 15,4" I had IBM Thinkpads. 14,1" high resolution screens, all the way.

The 14,1" form factor is excellent for a laptop (IMHO), and a decent resolution (Like the 1400x1050 on my old T43) ensures plenty of workspace.

So yes, I would definately prefer a 14" MBP. And if they kept the screen matte and non-widescreen it would be even better.
