OK, so, I'm enjoying the other recent poll I put up, I thought I'd do another. This is more of a thought experiment. Going forward, if there was going to be one design and one design only for the iPhone forever starting now, which current or past one would you want it to be? We're not talking about features or size: let's assume that whatever features come in real life would also come to this "new" design. Everything that's come so far: Touch and Face ID, edge-to-edge screen, Dynamic Island, a variety of sizes and regular and pro levels, iOS designs, all of that is the same, just packaged in a visual (and tactile) design language of your choice. Which would it be?

A note on the camera bump: you might make the case (haha) that a camera flush with the back of the chassis is a fundamental element of the designs that predate the 6, and that how could you possibly have all the advanced camera stuff on, say, a 4? This is where it goes into thought experiment territory. Let's just say that, magically, something allows it. Either somehow the physics of the universe get changed so that it can all fit in the shallower camera lens, or that Apple is able to accommodate the bump without befouling the design.

EDIT: The same note goes for materials. If a 5G radio, say, requires materials that aren't incorporated into a design, let's just pretend it magically gets fixed somehow. All the same features and functions that exist now (or will exist) exist in your selected design.

Here's the previous poll:
What was your favorite major iPhone feature breakthrough?

iPhone 4 was a revolutionary design, but the 12 improves upon it in every single way. Bigger phone, better screen, shatter resistant, and you can hold it however you want without interfering with the signal. 12 is the easy winner for me.

I'm gonna laugh if anyone choose the 6. Easily the worst design imo. The antenna lines, the slipperyness, the giant bezels, yuck to all of it.

iPhone 12 family with no camera bumps lol. I understand why their there and accept that, but flush would be so much better. So tempting to say either 3G or 6 series as well. I really enjoyed not having a back made of glass. Glass feels and looks premium, and it’s nice, but wasn’t as paranoid with the plastic or metal backs.

I feel the best "grip" there ever was on an iPhone was the 5c. I never had a worry that the phone was slipping out of my hand, and also never felt it grab when taking it out of my pocket. Perfect. I also loved the visual design, which I know a lot of people vociferously don't, lol. Definitely not a design that looks like it's for "professionals", lol.

The 4 was classic. The 12 series made it better by the front/back panels sitting inside the sides of the phone. Can’t remember the name of it at the moment, it’s been a long week. Plus with no camera bump. My ideal perfect phone, as far as design goes, using only what’s been done so far would be the 12 family design, metal back, somehow incorporating wireless charging, the dynamic island, the round volume buttons instead of the rocker.

I was torn between the x and 12 family. The 12 won out because the flat sides allow for a slightly larger screen without making the device larger.
