iPhone SE (2016) If you go to the Apple Store to replace the battery, do they upgrade iOS too?

I want to have my iPhone SE battery replaced. If I go the Apple Store, will they also upgrade my iOS? I'm on iOS 11 right now and not yet sure I want to upgrade to iOS 12.

BTW, do I need to make a Genius Bar appointment to get the battery replaced, or can I just walk in any time?

No they will not update your ios.

It would be best to make an appointment ahead of time. You certainly can walk in any time, but depending on which Apple Store you go to, they'll likely put you on the waitlist and send you text to make you way in and check in.

iOS 12 makes huge improvements in performance on the SE, so not sure what you are waiting for. But get the battery replaced quick while you still can cheaply.

I would also do an encrypted iTunes backup before you go in case something goes wrong and they have to replace your phone. I backup with the cloud nightly but also once a week on iTunes just to make sure.
