Apple Store cannot run iOS diagnostic on your device. Tried to get a diagnostic on my 2016 iPad due to 3 broken/silent speakers... ended up just walking out buying the new 10.5 inch 2017 model.

This new model is insanely nice though. If I didn’t use the tablet as much as I do, I’d just pay a 3rd party guy to crack open my old one and swap out the speakers, but I’ll just shelve it as a backup.
it works 100% fine with AirPods.
You missed my point: Even if I restored it to public, and apple did diagnostic, 3 of those speakers were still blown and I wanted the new model anyway.
What sucked was not simply getting a for sure answer what the problem was. I'd like my old one fixed, but I would have most likely bought the new one anyway.

I had the same issue yesterday. I cracked my home button and they needed to run diag but couldn't because I wasn't running a "public release". they had to DFU my phone and reinstall 11.0.0 to run diagnostics all to tell me that yes in fact my Touch ID was cracked. kind of annoying but the silver lining of the day was because I have the "unicorn" as they call it ( silver 256GB) model. they dont keep that model in the stores. they told me that if I pay the upgrade feel and the screen damage fee of $169 they would give me a 8 Plus. So Im happy, pays off to be a long time Apple customer and frequent shopper of that retail store.
Apple Stores have always treated devices on beta software the same as a device running a jailbreak. Does an OS effect a cracked screen (for example) no, but that’s just been their policy.
I agree, certainly beta software can in fact cause some hardware faults; not a broken screen or that type of stuff, but certainly battery issues, overheating, and other items stop working.
I totally understand why they wont service hardware on beta software. The betas specifically hold Apple harmless from any damage to your device, install at your own risk not on your primary device.

They matched my 7 Plus so I got a 256GB 8 Plus in silver. I payed a total of $190 all together, Repair fee for the screen and an activation fee
Let this 10.5 Pro charge and sync overnight. Great device.
I can still use my old one for the pool, beach, listening to music in the shower, etc, because I don’t care about getting it wet anymore.
Really can’t imagine anything missing on this 10.5. Insanely fast also.

yeah I was really surprised. I guess it helps that iIve invested a lot in fruit over the years and that ive been coming to that store for over 15 years.
I have, maybe a few iphones ago. I cant remember which one but there was a well known shortage of refurbs and they ended up upgrading people to the newer device in store until they got more refurbs in. They also did it recently for ipad 4 users up to Air 2s. it just depends if they make the model anymore or have the refurb stock in store.
Apple has always had a great CS policy with that where you wont walk out with a broken device even if they have to give you a newer model.
People always complain iphones are expensive but then forget saving $50 or $100 with say a Samsung, they arent going to do that for you at the carrier; and dont have many Samsung stores to walk into around the US.
This works out even better: I’m driving up to NC to visit a old college buddy of mine in a few weeks, and he wants to buy my old iPad.
Might as well; he’s one of the few people who I’d sell to, and he said he doesn’t care about the shot external speakers, he will just wear Bluetooth headphones. So it’s a win win. How much should I charge though?
