Most likely I will get the HTC EVO for 4G tethering to the iPad..
Not sure I am ready to part with my iPhone tho.
Im thinking about returning my iPad wifi for the 3G model this weekend.
Tethering is nice but the 3G "always on" connection would be nice too..
If I get the 3G iPad I would maybe end up keeping my iPhone.. I don't know. I'm so confused right now.

Wouldn't he have to resize his iPhone's sim? Just wondering would it be possible use the sim with the iPhone after resize?

Personally using a nexus one tethering to a wifi only iPad and loving it, well besides killing the battery on my nexus one. Spare battery and car charger are almost a must.

If I still had an iPhone, I probably would have never bought an iPad.

If this was the case though, I would sell the iPhone and look to something on the Android platform.

When you are tethering how accurate are your maps?
Thanks.

Is that an android app. If so what is it called

This doesn't sound very cost-effective. If your phone and iPad run the same OS, you can run the same apps on both devices. In many cases, the apps are universal and do not require separate purchases for iPhone and iPad. But if you have a different phone, like Android or WinMobile, then you are doubling your app cost. Not to mention that iTunes protected content may not run on your new phone.

Of course, if you don't buy many apps or any iTunes content, then it doesn't matter. But if you do, then I just don't see it as iPhone OR iPad, but rather iPhone AND iPad.

You would have to root your phone to allow the wifi tethering. Rooting is similar to jail breaking. At the moment the available apps that don't require rooting doesn't seem to support wifi. (well at least from my limited knowledge) there might be a non root way when the HTC Evo comes out since that's suppose to come with the wifi tethering.

Edit.
I never tried using the maps while tethering. I would assume it would be a bit off, but since the nexus one also has google maps and gps it was always easier to just mount my phone instead of iPad.

It would still work, just keep the other part that you cut, put a piece a tape and pop it back in on your iPhone... Beats spending $30 bucks...just my 2cents

Now only if there were a hack to copy the phone and sms app to the iPad. We'd have a fully functional phone on the iPad. Great for trips so I don't have to carry two devices around. LOL. Just wishful thinking here.

You can tether without rooting using PDAnet - http://www.junefabrics.com/android/index.php
although I haven't tried it, the rooted app looks better and I will not be rooting my desire any time soon.

If I'm not mistaken pdanet only does USB and Bluetooth tethering and not wifi. I haven't tried the paid version but the only difference is suppose to be opening of HTTPS. If you can use bluetooth to tether the iPad it would be pretty cool.
