There is an update to a package I don't want to install - is there some way in Cydia to ignore the update?!

I thought that, but its annoying me! It keeps telling me I have 1 update!!

Does there really need to be a reason why a person doesn't want to update?

I don't want to update an app, and that should be my choice, there should be an option to ignore it, without having the "1" there forever.

You should contact Jay and demand your rights. You can't let him get away with this kind of tyranny just because he's spent thousands of hours voluntarily creating the free utilities that make jailbreaking your phone worthwhile.

Heh. Demanding would be out of the line, but how about a polite feature request? I've seen more than one thread with people wanting to get rid of the update notification, so I believe this would be a feature addition appreciated by many.

You can go to the dpkg directory and find the file that keeps track of everything you have installed and change the version number. If you have 1.2 installed and the update is for 1.3, change the version number to 1.3 or 1.4, so it thinks you have the most recent version. For some reason, I think you have to use a version above the current update, e.g., 1.4.

I can't recall the exact file right now, I can find it later if no one beats me to it.

iFile will open the file. Just choose to open it as a text document and hit the edit button at the top left. Should probably back it up before you play with it, just in case.
