I was thinking about getting this new iHome thing. Does anyone have it that can tell me what type of sound quality it has?
I still don't know whether I want to buy a $100 alarm clock.

I've seen it, and it takes up alot of space. Also, doesnt the iPod have its own alarm. I have mine hooked up to my sterio and it works just fine to wake me up.

The iPod mini, I know, has an alarm built in but none of my speakers work with it.
I'm curious as to what the sound quality is like.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I would add my 2 cents.

I just picked one up from Bed Bath and Beyond using one of their 20%-off coupons (making the net price $79). Sound quality is subjective but it is certainly better than the speakers on my iMac G5 rev. A, but nowhere close to the Bose SoundDock. iLounge rated it comparable to Altec's inMotion speakers. The sound fills my bedroom nicely and I haven't noticed any distortion/static (except the usual hard disk noise you get with the 3G iPods).

When looking at pictures I think the iHome appears bigger than it is. I have a small nightstand next to my bed; it is able to hold both a table lamp and the iHome with plenty of room to spare. Actual product dimensions are ~10"w x ~6"D x ~3"h (w/o the iPod obviously).

The iPod alarm is just a little chirping noise played through it's tiny internal speaker. You can set it to play a certain playlist instead but then you have to have it plugged into some speakers. The chirp alarm is a bit dodgy, it only plays once and then turns off, because of the size of the speaker it isn't that loud either - certainly wouldn't wake me up.

my girlfriend needs a new alarm badly, hers has to be 20 years old. I am going to wait and get this for her for christmas this year. That Costco price makes it even nicer of a deal.

On a side note, my dad has this and it is quite nice. The sound is pretty much what you would expect from a small system like this. The only thing you NEED to get is the remote, it doesn't come with it but it is definitely a must buy.
